Senate EPW Committee Holds Hearing in Pierre on the Corps of Engineers

South Dakota Senator Mike Rounds, chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Subcommittee on Superfund, Waste Management and Regulatory Oversight, delivered the opening statement at his hearing in Pierre yesterday (Tuesday) entitled, “Oversight of the U.S. Army Corps’ Management of the Missouri River.”…….

Rounds says he wanted an update on the Corps snow pack monitoring system which was highlighted in a hearing in North Sioux City in March of last year………….

David Ponganis, Northwest Division Program Manager for the Corps, said they did an extensive follow up to the flooding of 2011….

Ponganis says they continue to focus on runoff monitoring and forecasting….

Rounds says the information from the hearing will be folded into the ongoing discussion of the Corps environmental impact statement on river operations.
