This week the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee is expected to mark up a Water Resources and Development Act bill. Soy Transportation Coalition Executive Director Mike Steenhoek says he’s pleased they’re moving forward as in the past there’s been long gaps between WRDA measures which creates uncertainty for the inland waterway system.

He says getting a WRDA measure passed is just part of the process, there also needs to be an appropriation bill approved to fund it.

Steenhoek says getting the WRDA legislation approved and funded is necessary so the United States can retain its global market share and increase that with its agricultural exports.

This week the Senate is also expected to debate amendments to the Energy Water legislation that funds the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
