Senate Committee Holds Field Hearing on Flooding

Senate Committee Holds Field Hearing on Flooding

Last week in Glenwood, Iowa, the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee chaired by Senator Joni Ernst held a field hearing looking at the effects of recent flooding. Iowa Farm Bureau President Craig Hill says the flooding was a catastrophic event not seen in several hundred years.

He says questions regarding the Corps flood management plan still need to be answered.

Hill says it doesn’t make sense that when the Corps changed their River Manual they focused more on habitat preservation and endangered species instead of flood prevention and control.

He says they’re asking Congress and the Iowa State Legislature to provide funding for disaster relief. Hill says the Iowa Farm Bureau has been working to assist flood victims and has sent donations to the Red Cross and United Way. Hill says they have flood resources available on their Iowa Farm Bureau website.
