A Senate committee in Washington recently heard from experts about the growing problem of sex trafficking in the nation’s Indian tribes. Nicole Matthews is Executive Director of the Minnesota Indian Women’s Sexual Assault Coalition and says tribes don’t have jurisdiction over non-Indian sex offenders

Matthews says it’s been a challenge to get more specific data on Indian sex trafficking, but the information that is available shows tribal women and children are victimized at higher rates than the general population.
