The Senate Environment and Public Work’s Committee has approved the Federal Water Quality Protection Act. This measure would stop the Environmental Protection Agency and the US Army Corps of Engineers from finalizing the controversial Waters of the U.S. under the Clean Water Rule. South Dakota Farm Bureau President, Scott Vanderwal does not support the proposed rule by the EPA and Corps.
Vanderwal says committee passage of this legislation is an important step to bring the Senate in line with what the House is doing to stop overregulation.
He says if it gets to the President, they have to ensure enough support to override a veto, which will be a challenge.
The Federal Water Quality Protection Act calls for the EPA and the Army Corps of Engineers to withdraw their proposed rule and replace it with a new one.
