Thursday the Senate Agriculture Committee will be holding a hearing on climate change. Minnesota Farmers Union President Gary Wertish is pleased the panel is discussing the issue because climate change is becoming costly. He says farmers must be involved in the policy discussion and development of a plan designed to sequester carbon.
He says more investment in agricultural research is important to help develop strategies that help farmers battle climate change.
Wertish says the best way to address climate change and involve agriculture as the solution is through incentives, not additional regulations.
The House Ag Committee held a climate change hearing last week.
