Work on the Senate version of the new Farm Bill is expected to get underway right after the Easter recess. Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley says that’s what he understands after meeting with Senate Ag Committee Chairman Pat Roberts.
He says Iowans are telling him they want a strong crop insurance program in the new legislation, along with solid conservation measures.
Grassley says whatever farm bill the House sends over to the Senate it will have to be bi-partisan for it to have any chance of being approved.
The House farm bill is being held up on a dispute between Democrats and Republicans over changes in SNAP or the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and transparency concerns.
