The Senate Agriculture Committee approved a bipartisan 5-year reauthorization of child nutrition programs today. Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley says the measure updates the original Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act but contains several beneficial changes, including allowing schools more flexibility as they adapt to new standards.
Grassley is hoping the enhancements will cut down on waste and lead to kids eating more of the food being offered through the nation’s school lunch and breakfast programs.
Grassley voted for the bill which was passed by a voice vote. It now moves to the full Senate.
