Senate Agriculture Committee member John Thune of South Dakota has announced the Senate Panel will hold a hearing June 23 into the cattle market problem facing producers. South Dakota cattle producer Justin Tupper who serves as Vice President of the U.S. Cattlemen’s Association will be testifying at that hearing about the crisis being experienced by independent cattle producers.

He says there’s a clear difference between the processor and the cattle producer as to how they support the agriculture industry.

Tupper says he’s convinced policy makers have heard the concerns of cattlemen that brought about this hearing and are ready to work on solutions for them.

Thune says while this upcoming hearing is a step in the right direction, the Justice Department must not take its foot off the gas and continue their investigation into the prices packers are getting versus the producers.
