This week leaders of the National Association of Wheat Growers submitted comments to the Senate Ag Committee looking at the current state of the farm economy. NAWG President Gordon Stoner, a Montana grower, says one of their main concerns is that as Congress drafts the new farm bill and works on a budget resolution they don’t cut Title 1 or crop insurance funding.
He says another concern they outlined to the Senate Ag Committee is the recent WTO case filed against China for depressing the wheat, corn and rice markets with their domestic support policies.
Stoner says also outlined the effect the economic downturn in agriculture is having on younger farmers and ranchers.
Stoner says many younger producers will go out of business unless Congress steps in with assistance.
