Nebraska Senator Deb Fischer says a number of committees in the Senate are reviewing ways to combat home-grown terrorism that may have led to the deadly shootings in Orlando.

Fischer says that even the Commerce Committee, on which she serves, is looking into how terrorists talk to each other via the Internet. She says the FBI plans to hold a classified briefing with senators, discussing the times FBI agents interviewed Omar Mateen

One proposal is to delay firearms purchases for 72 hours to give federal authorities adequate time for background checks. Fischer says the proposal would allow anyone denied a firearm his day in court

Fischer says the country also must get serious about treating mental illness.
