South Dakota senior guard Nicole Seekamp moved into second all-time for career points after scoring 19 in the Coyotes’ 92-60 win over Fort Wayne inside the DakotaDome.
South Dakota (14-5, 5-1 Summit) remains tied for first place in the league standings with the win. Fort Wayne (4-15, 0-6 Summit) has lost nine in a row.
“Fort Wayne leads the league in forced turnovers and right above us in steals per game,” head coach Amy Williams said. “Tonight, they had one steal while we had 25 assists and eight turnovers. I thought we did a great job of attacking their different defenses without turning the ball over.”
Seekamp hit a 3-point field goal with 2:17 remaining in the third quarter to reach 1,762 career points. Seekamp moves past Amber Hegge on the all-time charts, while only Mandy Koupal has scored more in her Coyote career with 2,142.
Seekamp registered her fourth consecutive double-digit scoring game by making 7-of-12 from the field and 3-of-4 from three. She added five assists, two steals, and no turnovers on the night.
South Dakota was up 49-29 at the half before extending the lead to 32. It’s the largest point differential in league play for the Yotes.
Senior guards Kelly Stewart and Tia Hemiller both scored 11 points. In her 100th career game, Stewart grabbed six off the glass, including four offensive boards. Hemiller dished out six assists and shot a perfect 3-for-3 in the first quarter. It was Hemiller’s 13th double-digit game this season.
