Seed and Crop Industry Concentration a Concern for Farm Groups

Monsanto’s bid to buy Syngenta BASF now interested in a takeover has raised red flags with many farm groups. National Farmers Union Senior Vice President of Programs, Chandler Goule says whichever way the deal is struck, it will lead to even more concentration in the seed and crop protection business.

Goule says the average farmer will be the loser in the long run if a mega merger or takeover occurs.

Goule says when the big companies get bigger, it negatively impacts Rural America.

Monsanto company officials say they are making progress persuading Syngenta shareholders that its $45 billion acquisition offer should not be ignored, and farmers would benefit through greater product innovation.
