The White House has sent the Senate Agriculture Committee financial disclosure information for Sonny Perdue, President Trump’s Agriculture Secretary nominee. South Dakota Farm Bureau President Scott VanderWal is hoping that means the Senate will move quickly to confirm Perdue as head of the USDA. He says once confirmed, his group wants Perdue to support trade which is critical for agriculture.

He says while some groups have come out opposed to Perdue, most of those are anti-agriculture. He thinks Perdue’s positive record will stand up for itself.

VanderWal says Perdue will get good support from both the Senate Ag Committee as well as South Dakota’s Congressional Delegation.

Because the Senate has yet to review Perdue’s paperwork, it could be the week of March 20 before a confirmation hearing is held at the earliest.
