Season Ends For Plouffe

Season Ends For Plouffe

Minnesota Twins third baseman Trevor Plouffe’s season has ended a few days early, because of a broken left forearm.

Plouffe was hurt in the sixth inning Wednesday against Arizona, when A.J. Pollock stole third base for the Diamondbacks. Plouffe’s forearm banged against Pollock’s knee during the attempted tag, and Plouffe instantly yelled in pain. After a brief visit with manager Ron Gardenhire and a team athletic trainer, he walked off the field holding the arm still.

Eduardo Nunez replaced Plouffe, who batted a career-high .258 with a team-high 40 doubles, 14 home runs and 14 errors. Plouffe got his team-high 80th RBI in the second inning, becoming just the third Twins player to reach that mark in the last four years. Josh Willingham had 110 and Joe Mauer had 85 in 2012.
