The Seaboard Triumph Foods pork processing facility in Sioux City, Iowa is on schedule to open this summer. Chief Operating Officer Mark Porter says their target date for opening the $264 million plant is August. By next year when their expansion is complete and both shifts are running, they’ll employ over 2,000 workers.

He says they’ll produce some of their own hogs for processing and will source the balance from pork producers in northwest Iowa.

Porter says once their Sioux City pork processing plant is fully operational they’ll process around 6 million hogs annually.

Porter says Sioux City is the best location for their pork plant. He cites the availability of hog, the Midwestern work ethic, a shovel ready site they bought from the city, as well as the support from the community and the state. He says they’ll begin hiring their workforce soon and those interested can go to Sioux City Pork.com.
