 No. 6 Virginia Tech used wins in the last three matches to record a 20-16 win over the South Dakota State University wrestling team Saturday evening at Frost Arena.

 

The Jackrabbits, now 1-3 in duals, won three of four matches to take a 16-11 lead after sophomore David Kocer (Wagner) recorded a major decision win over Cody Hughes, 9-1, at 174 pounds.

 

The Hokies then used three-straight decisions to win the dual.

 

Senior Brance Simms (Gilmore City, Iowa) picked up a 6-4 decision at 133 pounds for the Jacks’ first points. Junior Alex Kocer (Wagner) then won by technical fall over Chad Saunders at 149 pounds to even the match, 8-8.

 

No. 8 Cody Pack (Quincy, Calif.) recorded a major decision win, 9-1, over Jake Spengler in the 157-pound match to put South Dakota State ahead, 12-8.

 

The Jackrabbits return to action Nov. 27 when they host No. 4 Oklahoma State at 5 p.m. in Frost Arena.
