– The Western Wrestling Conference announced SDSU senior Cody Pack has been named the WWC Wrestler of the Week for his 4-1 performance at Midlands last week.

Pack opened the presitigious tournament 4-0 before dropping the championship match.

 

This is Pack’s third conference honor this season and the fifth of his career.

 

The Quincy, Calif., native pinned Larry Cannon (Messiah) and majored Samuel Kreimier (Air Force) before besting Doug Welch (Purdue) 9-4 in the quartfinals. Pack advanced to the title bout by way of a 5-1 decision over #18 Justin Staudenmeyer (Brown).

 

In the finale, #9 Isaiah Martinez (Illinois) got the best of Pack, beating him 6-3.

 

Pack’s second-place finish at Midlands is the best finish by a Jackrabbit in program history.

 

SDSU opens 2015 in Frost Arena Sunday, at noon as it hosts Buffalo and Dakota Wesleyan.
