In its first overtime game of the year, the South Dakota State women’s basketball came away with a 97-88 win at George Washington in a nonconference game in front of 1,135 fans.
The Jackrabbits outscored the Colonials 18-9 in overtime, shot 60 percent from the field and got a pair of 3-pointers from senior Alexis Alexander to put the game away.
Leading 85-83, the point guard sank her first long range shot of the second half with 2:52 left. The Colonials responded with a 3-pointer of their own to keep it a two-point game. Alexander then knocked down her second with 2:06 remaining to give State the 91-86 lead.
Junior Madison Guebert and senior Ellie Thompson sank six free throws in the final 1:07 to move South Dakota State to 2-0 on the season and drop George Washington to 0-2.
Junior Macy Miller led all scorers with 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field and three 3-pointers. She also had a team-best six rebounds and seven assists.
