A 24-3 run midway in the first half powered the South Dakota State women’s basketball to a 71-46 victory over Oral Roberts University Thursday night in Summit League action in front of 1,841 fans at Frost Arena.
The Jackrabbits (14-7, 5-3) had four players score in double figures. Freshman Macy Miller (Mitchell) led the Jackrabbits with 16 points, 10 coming in the first half. Senior forward Mariah Clarin (Princeton, Minn.) added 12 points while senior guard Megan Waytashek (Lino Lakes, Minn.) and sophomore guard Kerri Young (Mitchell) each scored 10 points. Clarin added eight rebounds, three steals and three blocked shots.
Oral Roberts (10-11, 4-4) were led by Vicky McIntyre’s 16 points, 20 rebounds and 9 blocked shots.
After Oral Roberts opened the game on a 15-4 run, the Jackrabbits answered with a 14-0 run for an 18-15 lead after a steal and basket by Miller with 8:25 left in the half. South Dakota State pushed the lead to 10 points when Clarin scored six straight points for a 28-18 lead with 4:40 remaining. The Jacks then closed the half on a 12-4 run for a 40-22 halftime lead.
South Dakota State hosts North Dakota State at 2 p.m. Saturday at Frost Arena.
