Freshman Macy Miller scored a career-high 30 points but it wasn’t enough as the South Dakota State women’s basketball team lost a 77-72 Summit League game at Denver Wednesday.
The point guard was 12 of 18 from the field, 3 for 3 from three-point range and 3 for 3 from the free-throw line. She also had a team-high eight rebounds, three assists and a block. Miller is the first Jackrabbit to score 30-plus points since senior Megan Waytashek (Lino Lakes, Minn.) had a 30-point, 11-rebound performance at Fort Wayne Jan. 12, 2013.
Sophomore Kerri Young (Mitchell) had 17 points, 3 assists and a pair of steals while senior Mariah Clarin (Princeton, Minn.) added 12 points.
Morgan Van Riper-Rose led Denver (8-17, 5-6) with 24 points followed by Paige Bradley with 18 points and Jacqlyn Poss with 13.
The Jackrabbits (16-8, 7-4) lead 53-48 with just over nine minutes to play before Denver used a 16-0 run, fueled by three three-pointers by Bradley, to take a 64-53 lead at 5:28.
SDSU cut the Pioneers lead to three times, the last with five seconds left, but Denver went 11 of 12 from the foul line in the final 48 seconds for the win.
South Dakota State continues its three-game road trip when it plays at Oral Roberts Friday at 7 p.m.
