South Dakota State extended its win streak to seven games with an 88-69 victory over South Dakota in Summit League women’s basketball action Sunday. A season-high 2,540 fans watched in Frost Arena. The victory pushes SDSU’s home-court win streak to 14 games.

Junior guard Megan Waytashek (Lino Lakes, Minn.) scored a game-high 20 points while classmate Gabby Boever (Worthington, Minn.) added 15. Senior guard Steph Paluch (Pierre) scored 13 points and had a team-high five assists. Waytashek and senior forward Hannah Strop (New Prague, Minn.) each grabbed six rebounds.

The Jackrabbits, now 16-7 overall and 7-0 in conference play, broke from a 10-10 tie at 13:33 to take a 31-19 lead with 8:24 remaining in the first half on a basket by senior guard Tara Heiser (Watertown). SDSU eventually pushed the lead to 18, 53-35, after a three-point field goal by Boever, one of the Jacks’ nine first-half three-pointers.

SDSU’s 53 first-half points are the most it scored in the first half since scoring 55 in the Dec. 11, 2013, win over then 12th-ranked Penn State. The Jackrabbits made 17 of 32 field goals in the first 20 minutes.

SDSU did not allow the Coyotes any closer than 13 points in the second half.

USD was led by Nicole Seekamp’s 13 points and five assists. Bridget Arens added 12 points.

South Dakota State begins a two-game road trip when it travels to Fort Wayne, Ind., to take on the Mastodons at 6 p.m. in Hilliard Gates Sports Center.
