South Dakota State women’s basketball has signed Tonoia (Ta-noah) Wade, a 6-foot forward from St. John’s University, head coach Aaron Johnston announced Tuesday.
Wade will sit out the 2015-16 campaign in accordance with the NCAA transfer rules before stepping on the court as a sophomore in 2016-17.
“We welcome Tonoia and her family to SDSU,” Johnston said. “We have followed her basketball career for many years and we know her strengths will fit well with our program. She’s already very accomplished as a player and we believe she can further enhance her talents at SDSU.”
A native of Bloomington, Minn., Wade played in 27 games for the Storm, averaging 1.4 points and 1.7 rebounds per game. The versatile player had career highs of seven points at Georgetown Jan. 23 and six rebounds at Marquette Feb. 13.
Wade had an illustrious high school career at Bloomington Kennedy, twice being named to the Class 4A all-state team. As a senior she led her team to a 25-7 record and the Minnesota Class 4A state championship game for the second-straight year. For her career, Wade scored over 1,000 points and grabbed over 500 rebounds.
A four-star recruit, Wade finished her high school career ranked 21st at her position by ESPN HoopGurlz and ranked No. 99th nationally by ProspectsNation.com.
