Senior Megan Waytashek led the South Dakota State women’s basketball team to a 60-49 win over Omaha Wednesday night in Summit League action in Sapp Fieldhouse.
With the win, SDSU improves to 18-8 overall and 9-4 in league play while UNO falls to 8-18 and 3-11.
Waytashek (Lino Lakes, Minn.) scored a game-high 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field and 3-of-4 shooting from the free-throw line. Freshman Macy Miller (Mitchell) added 15 points while senior Mariah Clarin (Princeton, Minn.) had six points and team-high eight rebounds.
Leading 34-27 at halftime, the Jackrabbits used a 7-0 run to open the second half and lead 41-27 at 18:07. SDSU’s largest lead came at 9:09 when Waytashek and Clarin combined for six points to go up 52-36.
Omaha cut the Jacks’ lead to six points, 55-49, with 1:04 left with a 13-3 run. Waytashek and sophomore Kerri Young (Mitchell) scored the final five points for the win.
Mikaela Shaw led Omaha with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
South Dakota State returns to action Saturday when it hosts South Dakota at 4:30 p.m. in Frost Arena.
