SDSU Women Rally For Win

Megan Waytashek scored a game-high 24 points to lift the South Dakota State University women’s basketball team to a 65-61 win over Middle Tennessee State Monday night before 1,026 fans at Frost Arena.

 

Waytashek, a senior guard from Lino Lakes, Minn., made 14 of 16 foul shots as the Jackrabbits (7-3) rallied from a 10-point deficit midway in the second half.

 

SDSU trailed 48-38 before using a 13-2 run to take a 51-50 lead when sophomore forward Clarissa Ober (Glencore, Minn.) banked in a three-point field goal with 6:20 remaining. The teams traded the lead until freshman guard Macy Miller (Mitchell) sank a three-pointer from the corner for a 58-57 lead with 2:40 left.

 

Olivia Jones led Middle Tennessee State (4-4) with 22 points. Cheyenne Parker added 15 points, 12 rebounds and 5 blocked shots.

 

SDSU overcame a first-half shooting performance that saw the Jacks make 5 of 24 shots.

 

South Dakota State hosts UALR at 7 p.m. Thursday at Frost Arena.
