Freshman Ellie Thompson (Chaska, Minn.) recorded her first collegiate double-double as the South Dakota State University women’s basketball team picked up a 67-42 nonconference win over UALR Thursday night at Frost Arena.
Thompson, who was one of five Jackrabbits to score in double figures, scored 12 points to go with 11 rebounds to lead the Jacks, now 7-3. Senior forward Mariah Clarin (Princeton, Minn.) also scored 12 points. Senior guard Megan Waytashek (Lino Lakes, Minn.) added 11 points while sophomore guard Kerri Young (Mitchell) and freshman guard Macy Miller (Mitchell) each netted 10 points. Miller added a team-high four assists.
UALR, now 6-2, was led by Shanity James’ 17 points.
After UALR scored the game’s first four points, the Jacks went on an 11-0 run in which Thompson scored four points. UALR went more than seven minutes without scoring a field goal as South Dakota State built a 15-7 lead. Waytashek and Thompson each finished the first half with seven points as the Jackrabbits took a 29-15 lead at halftime.
South Dakota State opened the second half on a 20-2 run to record the win.
The Jackrabbits travel to Poughkeepsie, New York, for a noon game against Marist College.
