A 7-4 run to finish the game helped the South Dakota State University women’s basketball team to a 53-51 nonconference win over Creighton Saturday night in front of 1,023 fans at D.J. Sokol Arena.

The Jackrabbits, now 8-2, used a jumper by sophomore Macy Miller (Mitchell) with 19.0 seconds remaining to take a 53-49 lead over the Bluejays. Creighton closed the game with a pair of free throws.

South Dakota State had three player score in double figures. Miller led the way with 15 points while junior Kerri Young (Mitchell) and sophomore Ellie Thompson (Chaska, Minn.) each had 12 points. Junior Clarissa Ober (Glencoe, Minn.) had nine points, seven rebounds and a career-high five assists.

Creighton (4-6) was led by Jade Owens’ 14 points.

After 14 lead changes the Jackrabbits took the lead for good, 48-47, on a Thompson layup at 4:46. Ober gave SDSU a four-point lead with a traditional three-point play with 2:41 to go.

Creighton’s MC McCrory sank a pair of free throws to cut the lead to two points, 51-49. After neither team scoring for four possessions, Thompson got a steal to setup Miller’s jump shot.

In the first half, Creighton used an 11-2 run to take an 11-6 lead. The Jacks cut it to one multiple times, the last at 17-16 on a Thompson layup at 6:49.

The Jackrabbits scored the final six points of the half, including a jump shot by freshman Madison Guebert (Apple Valley, Minn.) with six seconds remaining for the 24-22 halftime score.
