Sophomore Ellie Thompson recorded her fourth double-double of the season, but it wasn’t enough as the South Dakota State women’s basketball lost 63-60 at IUPUI in Summit League action.

The Jackrabbits, now 22-6 overall and 12-3 in league play, had three players score in double figures. Freshman Madison Guebert (Apple Valley, Minn.) had a game-high 18 points, including four 3-pointers. Thompson (Chaska, Minn.) tallied 16 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. Junior Kerri Young (Mitchell) added 11 points.

Danielle Lawrence’s 16 points led IUPUI, which improves to 20-8 and 11-4. Mikale Rogers added 11 points.

SDSU held a four-point lead at 5:46 after Guebert sank two free throws and Thompson converted a traditional three-point play to put the Jacks up 41-37. IUPUI closed the third quarter with seven unanswered points and opened the fourth quarter with a basket to take a 50-43 lead.

The Jackrabbits responded with an 8-2 run fueled by 3-pointers by Guebert and senior Chloe Cornemann (Yankton) and a layup my sophomore guard Macy Miller (Mitchell) to pull within one, 52-51, at 5:54.

The teams traded baskets until Lawrence sank two of her six free throws in the game with 17 seconds left seal the win.

The Jackrabbits play their final regular-season game when they play at Western Illinois Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
