 The South Dakota State University women’s basketball team used an 18-5 run in the first quarter in its 76-69 nonconference win over Arkansas in front of 2,109 fans at Frost Arena.

The win extends the Jackrabbits’ home win streak to 12 games.

 

Macy Miller (Mitchell) scored a game- and career-high 31 points for the Jackrabbits, now 2-0. Miller, a sophomore guard, scored 11 points in the first quarter. Seven of her points came during the Jacks’ run as they led 24-14 after the first 10 minutes.

 

Junior forward Clarissa Ober (Glencoe, Minn.) added 11 points, 10 rebounds and 2 steals for her first career double-double. Sophomore forward Ellie Thompson (Chaska, Minn.) scored 11 points.

 

Arkansas (2-1) was led by Jessica Jackson’s 24 points. Jordan Danberry added 14 points and Kelsey Brooks chipped in 12.

 

SDSU opened the second quarter on a 9-2 run to take a 33-16 lead with 6:22 to play in the half. Five players scored during the run. Dansberry scored with 10 seconds left in the half to cut the lead to 39-30.

 

After the Razorbacks cut the lead to six, 41-35, the Jackrabbits answered with an 11-3 run for a 52-38 lead with 5:07 to play in the third quarter. Again, five Jackrabbits contributed points in the run. Miller sank a long jump shot with six seconds remaining in the quarter to give State a 63-47 lead.

 

Arkansas eventually cut the lead to three, 70-67, after Dansberry scored in the lane with 3:54 remaining. Miller scored three-straight points to ice the game.

 

South Dakota State hosts No. 3 Notre Dame at 2 p.m. Saturday at Frost Arena.
