South Dakota State University head women’s basketball coach Aaron Johnston announced Wednesday two members of the high school Class of 2016 have signed national letters of intent to play for the Jackrabbits next season.
Signing Wednesday, the first day of the early signing period, were:
– Megan Bultsma, 6-3, center, Plankinton, S.D. (Plankinton High School)
– Sydney Tracy, 6-0, forward, St. Michael, Minn. (St. Michael-Albertville High School)
“We are thrilled to welcome Megan and Sydney to our Jackrabbit program. At 6-foot-3, Megan is a true post player who is effective in and around the paint. And Sydney is a versatile, long wing player who can score both inside and out,” Johnston said. “Both come from highly successful high school programs which fits well with our culture of success. It’s been a joy to go through the recruiting process with the Bultsma and Tracy families, and we look forward to seeing Megan and Sydney wearing the yellow and blue!” Johnston said.
Bultsma, a three-time Custer Battlefield Highway Conference selection, averaged 14.8 points, 7.7 rebounds and 4.9 blocks while shooting better than 69 percent from the field as a junior at Plankinton High School. A three-year letterwinner, Bultsma was a first team all-state and all-conference selection last year. She also helped the Titans to a third-place finish at the Class A state tournament and a 19-6 record.
A KORN Elite 8 Athlete award winner, Bultsma enters her senior season with 922 career points, 543 rebounds and 319 blocks while shooting 61.6 percent from the field.
Tracy enters her senior season with 948 career points, 339 rebounds 132 assists and 195 steals. She averaged 11.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 2.6 steals while shooting 45.6 percent from the field as a junior. Tracy also helped St. Michael-Albertville to a 22-3 record while earning All-Mississippi 8 Conference honors. As a sophomore, she was named all-conference, averaging 11.1 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.7 steals per game as the Knights reached the state quarterfinals. Breakdown Sports ranked Tracy as the No. 10 player in her class in Minnesota and Gprep.net ranks her No. 3.
