South Dakota State’s men’s and women’s basketball teams tuned up for a new season with exhibition wins over South Dakota Mines at Frost Arena Thursday.
The men tallied a 76-54 decision after the women had notched a 77-40 victory.
Thirteen of the 15 Jackrabbit men to suit up in the game scored, with Deondre Parks leading the way with 15 points in 21 minutes. The only other Jackrabbit to reach double figures, Cody Larson finished with 10 points in 15 minutes on the floor.
On the other side of the box score, 12 Hardrockers scored, but none reach double figures, with Konor Kulas leading the way with eight points. No Hardrocker finished with more than three rebounds.
Freshman Ian Theisen, finished with three points in the win, but added a game-high eight rebounds and a block for the Jacks, who finished with 44 rebounds, 20 more than the visitors, inclduding a 15-6 edge on the offensive glass.
For the women, sophomore Chynna Stevens (Clark) scored 12 points, shooting 5 for 8 from the field and 2 for 3 from the free-throw line, and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds, including five offensive boards.
Freshman Ellie Thompson (Chaska, Minn.) came off the bench for the Jackrabbits to score a game-high 15 points. The forward was 6 of 12 from the floor and 3 of 6 from the foul line. Thompson also grabbed eight rebounds.
Senior Mariah Clarin (Princeton) and freshman Macy Miller (Mitchell) each chipped in 11 points. Clarin also registered eight rebounds and three blocked shots.
