The South Dakota State women’s golf team erased a 10-stroke deficit and shot a final round 287 to win the MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial Tuesday by three strokes over UTEP.
The MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial is the second consecutive title the Jackrabbits have won this fall. They captured the UNO Invitational Sept. 3-4, and now have nine regular-season titles in school history, including seven in the last two seasons.
SDSU finished with an 896 (301-308-287) on the par-71, 6,017-yard Twin Oaks Country Club golf course. It’s final round 287 ranks as the second-best 18-hole score in school history.
The Jackrabbits put on a clinic on the course with the five-scoring players shooting no higher than 72 in the final round. Senior Hallie Getz tied for third, firing a final round 72 (76-73-72=221). Classmates Megan Mingo (76-76-72=224) and Islamiah Fuad (75-77-72) tied for seventh as both shot 72s Tuesday.
University of South Dakota senior golfer Brenna Lervick finished at 3-over par (216) and won medalist honors. This was Lervick’s third career tournament win and led the Coyotes to a seventh-place team finish.
A total of 15 teams and 89 individuals competed in the 54-hole tournament.
