South Dakota State and South Dakota, the number 2 and 3 seeds, are out of the Summit League men’s basketball tourney after first round upsets.

No. 2 seed South Dakota State fell to No. 7 seed Purdue Fort Wayne 77-74 Saturday night.

Noah Freidel led all scorers with 35 points, burying 7-of-15 from beyond the arc and 6-of-8 from the charity stripe. SDSU fell to 22-10.

North Dakota’s all-Summit guard Marlon Stewart hit a pull-up jumper with 10 seconds left to give the Fighting Hawks a 72-71 lead and South Dakota couldn’t convert on their end as UND pulled a 74-71 upset Sunday evening. USD drops to 20-12.
