The South Dakota State women’s soccer team will be playing the University of Minnesota in the first round of the 2015 NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament Friday at 6 p.m. in St. Paul, Minn.
“We are excited to be heading back to Minnesota. I know that we will have a great crowd and are looking forward to playing the Gophers Friday,” said head coach Lang Wedemeyer after the draw was released.
SDSU, who ended the regular season with a 12-5-3 record, won The Summit League 2015 championship title after a shutout game against top-seeded North Dakota State.
The Jacks defeated the Bison, 3-0, to earn a spot in the NCAA Women’s Soccer College Cup.
SDSU has made appearances in the NCAA College Cup in 2008 and 2014. In 2008, the Jackrabbits ultimately fell, 2-0, to Minnesota in the second round of the tournament playing in St. Paul, Minn.
Last season, the Jackrabbits were paired with second-seeded North Carolina in the first round. The Jacks battled hard against the Tar Heels but failed to find the back of the net, falling 2-0.
The Gophers finished regular season with a 11-6-3 overall record, 6-4-1 in Big Ten play. Minnesota has yet to win a match since October against Iowa.
