Pork producers can get an update on new technology and research in the swine industry at SDSU Swine Day. It’s set for tomorrow, October 11, at the SDSU Swine Research and Education Unit, which also marks the one-year anniversary of the facility. Extension Swine Specialist Dr. Bob Thaler says the program starts at 9 a.m.
He says following the public event, the Swine Education and Research Advisory Council will meet. Thaler says Swine Day is also an opportunity for the general public to see how a modern pork facility operates.
Approximately 150 sows and 1,200 finishing pigs are housed at the main facility just north of Brookings. Thaler says the new swine facility mirrors modern swine operations, which are environmentally responsible and control odors.
The full schedule for SDSU Swine Day and additional information is available at the SDSU website at www.Igrow.org.
