South Dakota State equestrian rider Mariah Wright finished in a three-way tie for fifth at the prestigious National Reining Horse Association Collegiate Reining Championship on Saturday.
She scored 206.5, the second-highest score of the NCEA riders.
“Mariah did a great job on a tough draw. She didn’t score very high on her stops, but kept her score up by plusing her other maneuvers,” outgoing SDSU equestrian coach Megan Rossiter said.” Very few freshmen qualify and compete at this event, but she rode her entire freshman year like a seasoned competitor. It’s been a privilege to work with Mariah.”
A Wooster, Ohio native, Wright completed her first season at SDSU in the spring with a 9-3-1 reining record, which includes an SDSU single-season record five MOP rides, which earned her NCEA Reining All-American honors and a chance to compete at this year’s NRHA Derby.
