The numbers of large, confined animal feeding operations, or CAFO’s are growing in eastern South Dakota.
Large dairy operations are planned or underway along the I-29 corridor, with large poultry or pork facilities showing up in the south and east.

South Dakota State University President Barry Dunn says those units can be safe, and profitable….

Dunn says there has to be constant management of those CAFO’s……

Dunn says the new hog units built near the campus in Brookings shows that they can be located close to homes and businesses…

Dunn says the units near the campus use biofilters.
