The South Dakota pork industry will be showcased at the SDSU Pork Classic on Saturday in Brookings. SDSU Extension Swine Specialist Bob Thaler says the annual event will feature an SDSU basketball double header and fundraisers to support SDSU athletics and animal science students.
Thaler says they’ll also be auctioning pork bundles to support student scholarships.
He says its an exciting time for young people to be involved in the swine industry whether they’re going back to the farm or want to get a job in some area of swine production.
He says more young people are getting into swine production through contract finishing or other arrangements and as a result the number of pigs in South Dakota is on the rise.
