The Environmental Protection Agency has proposed revisions to their Worker Protection Standard for farm workers who regularly deal with pesticides. These new rules are meant to protect the nation’s two million farm workers and their families from pesticide exposure.  SDSU Extension Integrated Pest Management Coordinator Darrell Deneke says while regulations can sometimes be a nuisance, this proposal is a good one.

It’s been over 20 years since the rules have been significantly updated going back to 1992. Deneke says because herbicides and their use have changed, the rules needed changing as well.

The proposed rule will be published within ten days and after that stakeholders will have 90 days to comment on the revisions.
