A Coalition of University and Agriculture groups want Congress and the Biden Administration to increase funding for agricultural research. SDSU President Barry Dunn says they’ve joined the coalition which is asking for an increase of $ 40 billion for that agricultural research.

He says they’ve had several successful ag research programs at SDSU but many of their ag facilities are aging and those additional research dollars are needed.

Dunn says they’ve received a lot of support in the past from the State’s Congressional Delegation and their staffs when it comes to pushing for funding to support agriculture and the research programs.

The federal share of overall research and development spending as a percentage of the Gross Domestic Product is now at its lowest point since the 1950s.
