SDSU, Huskers Set Soccer Clash

South Dakota State soccer coach Lang Wedemeyer announced the team’s spring schedule, which features seven games including their alumni game on April 26.

The Jackrabbits begin their spring season against Big Ten member Nebraska. The Huskers finished the 2013 season with a final record of 19-4-1, their season ended with a 4-1 loss to Boston College in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Huskers claimed both 2013 Big Ten regular season and postseason titles. Game time is set for 2 p.m., on March 1 in Lincoln, Neb.

The spring season continues on March 29 against the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Phoenix. The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and SDSU clash on the campus of Shattuck-St. Mary’s (Faribault, Minn.) on March 29 at 1 p.m. The Phoenix finished the 2013 season with a record of 4-8-5.

A week later (April 5), the Jackrabbits take the field against Creighton and Northern Iowa in Omaha, Neb. SDSU and the UNI Panthers meet this spring after SDSU prevailed 1-0 during this past fall. In the first season of BIG EAST action, the Bluejays finished the year with an overall record of 9-8-1 and a conference record of 2-6-1. Game time against the Panthers is set for 1 p.m.; the Jackrabbits and Bluejays will play at 3 p.m.

Southwest Minnesota State travels an hour west on highway 14 to play the Jackrabbits at Fishback Soccer Park on April 16. The Mustangs posted a record of 16-4-2 during the 2013 season. SMSU reached the third round of the Division II NCAA Tournament before falling 2-0 to conference foe Minnesota-Duluth. The Mustangs and Jackrabbits take the field at 6 p.m.

On Wednesday, April 23, Augustana comes to town to take on SDSU at Fishback Soccer Park. The Vikings finished the 2013 season with a record of 10-8-1 overall and 8-6-1 in the Northern Sun Conference. Their 2013 season ended with a 5-1 loss to the Winona State Warriors in the first round of the NSIC Tournament. The opening whistle is set for 6 p.m.

SDSU finishes their spring schedule with an alumni soccer game at Fishback Soccer Park. Game time is set for 1 p.m., on Sat., April 26.
