The Summit League named South Dakota State junior George Marshall its men’s basketball player of the week on Monday.
The award comes for his efforts on the court last week in leading the Jackrabbits to Summit League wins at home over Western Illinois on Wednesday and at Omaha on Saturday.
“We’re pleased that George is starting to settle in, it takes awhile to gain a rhythm, especially when you haven’t played in a year,” head coach Scott Nagy said. “We certainly don’t expect him to get 25 every night, but we think that he’s gonna continue to shoot the ball very well and be a big offensive threat for us.”
Marshall earned his first weekly honor after averaging 21 points per game in pair of Summit League victories. In the Jacks win at Omaha, Marshall scored a career-high 25 points, including a career-best five 3-pointers, and added three assists and two rebounds.
Earlier in the week, Marshall led all scorers with a 17-point performance in a victory over Western Illinois. He knocked down four-of-seven shots from beyond the arc and pulled down five rebounds to go along with two steals. For the week, Marshall shot 55.6 percent from the field and 60 percent from 3-point range.
Marshall and the Jackrabbits start a season-long three game homestand on Wednesday against IUPUI at 7 p.m., and then return to action on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. against South Dakota in the South Dakota Corn Showdown Series and Lamb Bonanza.
