Following a fairly mild fall, this week’s winter like stormy weather that brought snow and heavy winds to the Northern Plains created challenges for Livestock Producers. SDSU Extension Veterinarian Dr. Russ Daly says keeping animals shielded from the wind and kept dry is very important., along with proper feed

He says the needs of the livestock indoors have to be met, so it’s important to make sure buildings are properly ventilated and the heat is working.

Daly says calves should be monitored for any possible diseases especially respiratory ones and get them treated right away.

Daly says for the younger livestock that are outdoors, make sure and watch them to see they don’t get frostbite and see they have proper shelter.
