SDSU Extension Specialists Update Producers At Field Day At Volga Research Farm

South Dakota State University’s Volga Research Farm held its annual tour last night featuring the latest research to help grain producers in the region. SDSU Extension Weed Management Coordinator Paul Johnson conducted the weed management tour focusing on new technologies and the seed and systems area.

Johnson also highlighted the weed trials featuring various pre-emergent herbicides and weed management strategies in the glyphosate resistant era.

SDSU Extension Soils Field Specialist Anthony Bly talked about the benefits of cover crops and the research he’s conducting on the specific relationship between various cover crops and soil carbon and nitrogen.

The field day also provided updates on crop and insect management, crop performance testing and new weather tools.
