SDSU Extension along with the State Department of Environment and Natural Resources and NRCS are offering an environmental training session for confined animal feeding operators on December 5 in Huron. SDSU Extension Swine Specialist Dr. Bob Thaler says operators who attend can obtain their general permits to operate CAFOs. He also says they’re inviting policy makers and concerned citizens to attend.

He says one of the advantages of this type of seminar is it helps those who don’t farm and ranch understand how CAFOs operate and how producers are being environmentally responsible.

Thaler says new technologies have helped improve the environmental footprint of CAFOs.

The day long seminar December 5 runs from 8:50 a.m. until 4:45 pm with registration at 8:30 am at the Crossroads Hotel and Convention Center in Huron. For more information and to register go to IGrow.org/events.
