Strong second half runs carried the South Dakota State men’s and women’s basketball teams to exhibition wins at Frost Arena Thursday night.
The Jackrabbit men topped South Dakota Mines 78-65 after the SDSU women defeated Northern State 71-59.
Playing in front of 2,080 fans in a charity matchup to raise awareness and financial support for hurricane relief efforts nationwide, the Jackrabbit men shot 42.2 percent in the game and forced 19 Hardrocker turnovers.
Mike Daum led the way with a 21-point, 11-rebound double-double. He was joined in double figures by Skyler Flatten and David Jenkins Jr., who each had 16 points. Flatten hit 5-of-6 at the charity stripe and Jenkins Jr. drilled four 3-pointers.
On the women’s side, junior Madison Guebert’s 17 points led SDSU. Senior Ellie Thompson had 14 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Junior Macy Miller added 12 points and senior Chynna Stevens 11 points and seven rebounds. Freshman Tylee Irwin scored 10 points off the bench.
The SDSU men were down two points at halftime while the women were tied at the break.
