Athletes at South Dakota State University are learning how to incorporate lean beef into their training diets through a partnership with the South Dakota Beef Industry Council. SDSU Head Strength and Conditioning Coach Nate Moe says through cooking and grilling classes and nutrition workshops they’ve been able to teach the athletes about proper nutrition, including lean beef.
Moe says good quality protein, like lean beef, is important for athletes during competition and especially in the offseason to retain muscle mass.
Kim Schwabenbauer is a dietitian and former triathlete. The South Dakota Beef Industry Council brought her in to speak with nearly 150 athletes about how to construct a training diet and why animal protein like lean beef is a good choice for them.
She says lean beef also delivers the recommended 25 grams of protein per meal for less calories than many other foods.
