South Dakota Soybean Processors is holding an open house at their new processing plant in Miller today. SDSP CEO Tom Kersting says they bought the facility out of bankruptcy. They’re currently processing commodity beans but are converting it to a certified organic and GMO-free soy processing plant. The open house allows area farmers to tour the facility and ask questions about its operations.
Kersting says their partner World Food Processing is signing contracts with farmers to deliver the (4 million bushels) identity preserved beans and collect a significant premium.
He says there is a real market for these beans and they have demand from both domestic and international customers.
South Dakota Soybean Processors is managing the new facility from its headquarters in Volga. The plant will employ approximately 15 people.
