Radical environmental groups are pushing Interior Secretary Deb Haaland to disallow ranchers grazing on federal lands mainly on BLM Herd Management areas. That move has caught the concern of the South Dakota Stock Grower’s Association. Executive Director James Halverson says that push to eliminate grazing should concern everyone because of all the environmental benefits grazing brings to those lands.

He says ranchers have a positive story to tell of how they have a great effect on battling climate change which fits the new administration’s goal.

Halverson says they’ve been considered with Haaland’s take on grazing and the environment since she was appointed as head of the Interior Department. He says they’ve been weighing in with the state’s congressional delegation on this issue.

Halverson says when these types of attacks against grazing come before federal agencies it’s important Congress weigh in and exercise their oversight responsibilities.
