SDPPC Leader Responds to Lawsuit on Swine Inspection System

The lawsuit filed by Food and Water Watch against the USDA over their new swine inspection system is misguided. That’s according to Glenn Muller, executive director for the South Dakota Pork Producers Council. He says food safety will be insured with the new inspection system, which eliminate outdated rules and allows streamlining through new technology.

He says the new technologies have improved food safety and the new inspection system utilizes that innovation to give consumers even greater protection.

Food and Water Watch officials are claiming USDA’s new swine inspection system removes inspection responsibilities from the government and turns it over to the pork industry. Muller argues the government oversight is still there.

Muller says there should be no concerns regarding food contamination with the new inspection system as charged by Food and Water Watch. He adds that pork producers and their families eat the product they produce and are making sure it’s the safest it can possibly be.
